JILL SCOTT SAYS ENGLAND WOULD REACH FINAL

England midfielder Jill Scott says that the team would reach the final of the ongoing Women Euro 2017 in her absence.

She is suspended for the semi-final clash with the hosts Holland after her second yellow card in the 1-0 against France in the last game.

“I’m disappointed I can’t put myself up for selection. But I’m very confident in this team and I know we will carry on this journey on Thursday,” she said.

The Manchester City star scored in the Euro 2009 semi-final when England clashed with the Netherlands. She scored in the extra time as the Lioness emerged 2-1 winners. Scott was also available when England defeated them 1-0 last November.

This time it would not be as easy. They are the hosts and they are keen on lifting the title. They have a 100% record like England and would be having the crowd in their favour. On the other hand, England defeated France for the first time in over 40 years. They had lost to the French side three times but they ran out winners this time. The confidence could propel them against all odds when they clash with the Euro 2017 hosts.

“The Netherlands have played some exciting football and they deserve to be in the semi-final as much as we do. But when we play we are unstoppable,” Scott opined.

She said it would be “difficult” watching the game from the stands as her teammates battle the Netherlands. She confessed that she was “not very good at watching games” but that she would just try to enjoy this one and learn from it. She adds that she hopes she does not get too involved emotionally.
